     The content of the playscripts are designed to allow full exploration of the drama strand of our NZ curriculum. They also present opportunities for work with the other Arts strands, along with subject matter, stories, facts and histories, useful for study platforms in subject areas which include; English, History, Health, Science and Social Science.

    See the education guide, which accompanies each script, for ideas on how you may approach using scripts for such purposes.

Welcome

    This is New Zealand educators' FREE, speedy and easy to use resource for children's playscripts, and invaluable teaching guides, for years 1 to 5. Downloadable and printable in minutes!

     Whether you are looking for short 2/5 minute plays for small groups to explore the drama curriculum, or to present a play in assembly: It's all here!

The guides outline each play's opportunity for learning of specific technical skills, elements and conventions of the drama strands. They contain tried and tested step by step process/activities that allow akonga to meet the drama achievement objectives and create quality performances. An easy to use assessment tool sets out the achievements and criteria your learners are working towards, making for speedy yet quality assessment.

   Playscripts offer a range of length, cast number, and genres, which have all been specifically written for your kiwi learners by playwrights in our theatre industry. The plays reflect your akonga’s kiwi lives, and our cultural diversity. The content has been educator vetted for the potential to allow learners to explore the full drama strand and skills criteria.

    This unique combining of appropriate, modern, cultural content and built in NZ curriculum exploratory potential, makes these playscripts a great choice for your New Zealand classroom.

     To find and print a script, use the quick search table and the catalogue listing, both on the Materials page. The search table allows you to choose a script based on specific criteria you may have, such as the length, the cast number, the reading level, the genre, curriculum explorations and more. Once you have found a match, go to the catalogue which allows you to browse through all titles of scripts and related guides, in PDF downloadable and printable format.

    Each script's accompanying Educational Guide gives you information on;
  • General theme/topic of the play
  • Staging suggestions
  • Process/Rehearsal activities
  • Matching curriculum strands & specific skills
  • Other subject link ideas
  • Assessment/achievement tool

                    Download and print off in minutes!

     In future we hope to provide leaner guides for year 3 upwards so they can follow the steps and work through activities themselves. Also to provide drama skills building activities and hot tips sheets, that will support both guides, for example;
  • Memorising scripts
  • Casting
  • Vocal skills
  • Physical skills
  • Audience engagement
